Gifts From the Elders Documentary by James Fortier – June 4

Confederation College 1450 Nakina Dr, Thunder Bay, ON, Canada

FILM SYNOPSIS (http://giftsfromtheelders.ca):
“Gifts from the Elders” is a 60 minute documentary that follows five Anishinabe youth on a summer research project with their Elders, whose stories guide them on a journey back to proceeding generations that lived a healthy lifestyle off of the land. Their stories chronicle the devastating impact that environmental and cultural dispossession had on the flow of knowledge from Elders to youth, and ultimately on the health of their people. As their summer comes to an end, the youth emerge with “gifts” of knowledge and teachings from their Elders, inspiring a renewed determination to forge a hopeful and healthy future for the next generation.

Confederation College 1450 Nakina Dr, Thunder Bay, ON, Canada

Leesa was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. She also has a condition called chiari malformation type 2. These issues are causing the nerves in her brain to shut down which is affecting her hearing, sight, speech, and her ability to swallow. Leesa is terminally ill and her long time dream has been to meet Dolly Parton. Dolly has arranged to meet her in person at the Dollywood Park in Tennessee but it is quite costly to travel there. Please come out and support us in raising the funds to send Leesa to meet the person she calls her “guardian angel.”
