Tom Savage

Apollo 239 Red River Rd, Thunder Bay, ON, Canada

https://www.tomsavage.ca/
Tom Savage - Canadian Singer, Songwriter, and Guitarist
Tom Savage is what one might refer to as a triple-threat. One part truth-telling troubadour, one part death-defying guitar slinger, and one part Country Blues howler. Each facet of his formidable on-stage persona carefully crafted over a 20+ year devotion to the composition and performance of song. Tom is a true believer. A disciple of melody and harmony and tempo and timbre. An evangelist preaching to anyone who will listen of the healing and meditative powers of music. Pouring his heart out of his throat every night, while simultaneously shredding his fingertips in his relentless assault on the beat-up 1973 Guild acoustic he adores.
Tom Savage's music comes from places occupied by Townes Van Zandt and Bruce Springsteen, but also lurking in the shadows of influence are Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page in one corner, and Wes Montgomery and Freddie Robinson in another. Give a teenaged kid a cassette player and a radio dial ( circa 1988) and it is the equivalent of throwing the contents of the entire refrigerator into a blender. You have no idea what flavour the combination will result in. This is the time when many musical seeds where planted in Tom's psyche, thus the beginning of a lifelong journey.
Where does he stand today? A writer of Country and Folk songs, sung in a weathered, emotive voice with a hint of a Bluesman's growl, accompanied by fiery and fast rock n roll guitar licks (these days Savage opts for the acoustic guitar, occasionally mandolin, rather than reaching for the electric). Tom Savage is not your average folksinger.

His style and sounds lies somewhere between Nick Cave, David Bowie and Leonard Cohen backed by the sonic power of a Pink Floyd-Radiohead hybrid. After 5 albums and 4 Canadian tours, here is J.P.’s sixth album: a double album consisting of 24 songs clocking in at 2 hours and 19 minutes. On this album, he targets the totalitarian powers that be: governments, corporate power, religion, ideology, technology and other tools of destruction that want to rule our society. The Real Sickies + local guests

Apollo 239 Red River Rd, Thunder Bay, ON, Canada

https://stomprecords.com/bands/real-sickies/
https://realsickies.bandcamp.com/
The year was 2014, the place was Edmonton and the mission was simple. Spread the highly infectious pop punk contagion to the four corners of the earth and beyond. And, just like that, the first wave of Real Sickies was unleashed. A steady stream of demos and EPs quickly established the Sickies as a local virus to be reckoned with. The band fiercely escalated their fever pitch plans of world domination by sharing the stage with heavyweights Stiff Little Fingers, Subhumans, The Real McKenzies, Giuda, Mean Jeans and The Jolts just to name a few. A couple near disasters almost put the Real Sickies out of commission. Lead singer Ben ironically got real sick and required spinal surgery while a couple of founding members stepped down. This would usually be enough to sink any band; but Ben bounced back like a champion, new members stepped up and Real Sickies released their phenomenal debut album “Get Well Soon”. The band immediately shot out on tour making house calls across nation as many new fans happily succumbed to the sickness for the first time.
And now Real Sickies are launching their pop punk pathogen straight into the final frontier. “Out Of Space” is thirteen rocket-propelled, turbo-boosted, NASA-disavowed tracks of incurable, infectious bliss. Clocking in around thirty minutes, the latest album blasts the patient into orbit with plenty of sweet singalong choruses, blazing down-stroke riffs and enough whoa-ohs to infect even the most jaded extraterrestrial. Real Sickies will be invading a town near you this fall. Until then…Stay sick!
For fans of: The Ramones, Teenage Head, (early) Green Day, The Copyrights, Teenage Bottle Rocket
“..seriously-fun, without being overly serious, great record for old-school punk fans, and driving rock fans, alike. Put on your red and green 3-D glasses, your rattiest (or neatest) pair of Chucks, and “Rock ‘n Roll High School” dance party all over your room!” – Canadian Beats
“Punk rock is a flame that refuses to go out. Leading that charge in Edmonton is Real Sickies, a born and bred classic punk band in the same vein as Ramones or Teenage Head.” – Beat Route Magazine
“But if you're like me and can never get enough great punk/powerpop/rock n' roll, this record is not to be missed!” – Faster & Louder Magazine

Holly Rees / Jarrett Adler

Apollo 239 Red River Rd, Thunder Bay, ON, Canada

Holly Rees brings her Canadian tour to Thunder Bay for a double whammy at The Apollo Bar!
Holly is an indie-folk singer-songwriter who grew up in the moors of the Durham Dales in the North East of England. Her 2017 debut EP 'Ilex' launched her musical career with support from BBC 6 Music and a feature on Tom Robinson's BBC Introducing Mixtape. 2018 saw this success continue with festival slots at Hit The North and Evolution Emerging, as well as supporting the likes of CoCo and the Butterfields, Joseph J Jones, X Factor's Sam Lavery, and Hannah Trigwell. Described as Laura-Marling-meets-Courtney-Barnett, her sophomore EP ‘Slow Down’ was released in August 2018 and reached #6 in the iTunes charts with continued support from BBC Introducing as well as radio play further afield in Europe and the USA, and was followed by an impressive UK tour with Matt Dunbar. To celebrate the release of her latest single ‘Stick Around’ in December, Holly was joined by a full band at her biggest headline show to date. There’s no slowing down in 2019 either with the upcoming release of a full-band live EP, and the announcement that Holly is taking her heartfelt live shows to an international level with a solo Canadian tour this year.
"a delicate voice that will rip through your ears and leave a lasting impression" - Songwriting Magazine
"I was listening to a girl from the North East the other day, Holly Rees, and her track ‘Toast’ and it floored me. It was so brave and created by someone who was really, truly, being themselves. Don’t believe anyone who tells you there is no future in music. There is. All you have to be is good." - Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music
“Her stage personality, songs, and voice reminded me of some legendary singer/songwriters from yesteryear” - Spotlight Music UK
"unapologetically down to earth lyricism" - RIDE MUSIC
“an earnest brand of songwriting that will take Holly farther than she thinks." - The Music Mermaid
"Charmingly goofy and engaging, she has that knack of captivating an audience with her storytelling and effortless patter between songs." - NARC. Magazine

Wrecker & The Reconstruction Crew

Apollo 239 Red River Rd, Thunder Bay, ON, Canada

https://wreckertunes.bandcamp.com/
"wrecker" is the musical works of songwriter and performer Jory Dylan Strachan.A project inspired by rebirth, "wrecker" evokes exactly as it means; a salvaging of the reusable parts to create something new. A collection of the broken pieces molded and crafted into a shape of best fit.
Growing up in the rocky woods of northwestern Ontario Canada, Strachan`s career began in the dingy basements and punk-dives pockmarked across the vast Canadian landscape.Years later, Strachan reinvented his approach and started `wrecker`, after months spent in the isolated woods of northern Alberta and BC.
Wrecker’s first release “homewrecker”, a 5 song collaborative split with Manitoban songwriter Bailee Woods of “housepanther” dedicated to the theme of infidelity was released on Valentine’s Day, February 14th of 2019 and received much critical acclaim in Canada. The songs introduced audiences to Wrecker’s capacity for vulnerability and fearless approach to honesty in all its beautifully hideous faces.Despite the project having only been around for less than a year, Wrecker has already toured north much of America, performed an official showcase at SXSW in Austin, Texas and is slated to play several festivals and tours later in 2019.
The Reconstruction Crew is childhood friends Janine Alcock (TWIG, Grim Light) and David Lozenski (Grim Light)

Doreen / Lord Hidetora

Apollo 239 Red River Rd, Thunder Bay, ON, Canada

https://doreenconjures.bandcamp.com/
With a world-worn skepticism toward belonging, Edmonton’s Doreen conjures impressionistic post-punk at odds with easily marketed identity. Inspired by the playful irreverence of bands like Swell Maps and Orange Juice, with the lyrical fervor of an ill patient desperately trying to reach beneath the surface, Doreen spits out songs both dancey and dour, complex and ragged. The four members, Joshua Carson (guitar/vocals), Matthew Punyi (drums), Kevin Holowack (bass), and Damian Hockley (guitar/vocals), live, eat, and snore together, and the result is charming intimacy backed by a staggeringly sharp collective lens.
Though fresh to the scene, Doreen has shared the stage with bands such as Chastity, Casper Skulls, and Kamikaze Girls. On the verge of releasing their first full-length record Ruthless Severance in June 2019 and embarking on an Eastern Canada tour in August 2019, Doreen can’t wait to get under your skin.
