Southern Comfort – July 11

Looking for a slide guitar player in Thunder Bay? Ask around. Guaranteed, without hesitation or reservation, you’ll hear the same name over and over again – Dave Jonasson.
Jonasson has a long personal presence in Thunder Bay’s music history that he can trace back to the mid-1970 days of Ken Hamm, the Bay Street Blues Band and Rodney Brown & the Derailers. He has led many bands over the years, most notably the Blue Pretenders and been a popular draw at the Red Rock Folk Festival and the Trout Forest Music Festival in Ear Falls. With a passion for his craft, a heartfelt delivery, an unassuming nature and a deep respect for the music’s traditions, Jonasson is the epitome of what attracted us all to the blues to begin with. And, while the spirit of Elmore James and Ry Cooder haunt the stirring sounds of his slide guitar, he is also a great admirer of Chuck Berry rock ‘n’ roll, Fats Waller jazz and Ricky Skaggs bluegrass.
“Authenticity” is the operative word here. Served up with northern gusto and first class musicianship don’t miss the hearty samplings of Delta and Chicago blues, R&B and rock ‘n’ roll on Southern Comfort’s play list.

Robin Ranger – July 26

Robin Ranger is an Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) from Fort William First Nation located at the head of the north shore of Lake Superior. Robin was awarded a grant from the Ontario Arts Council for his second record of his own jazz compositions, ‘Robin Ranger – The View From Seventh Sky’.

James Boraski – July 19

Boraski is described as an “introspective & creative” singer/songwriter with well-structured, lyrically interesting, contemporary songs that go beyond the boundaries of traditional blues. His debut CD – NVR2L8 (Never too Late) – was a featured work at Canada’s Northern House at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver!!

2nd Annual Valley Fresh Buskers Festival – July 26 & 27

The Bay and Algoma Business Association is happy to announce the return of the Valley Fresh Busker’s Festival to the Bay and Algoma District.
The 2nd Annual Valley Fresh Busker’s Festival will be taking place July 26-27, 2014 and will feature street performers, food and craft vendors, interactive audience events, as well as media coverage by ROCK 94 fm. We would like to extend an offer to you to help be part of this year’s festival. Last year we launched The Valley Fresh Busker’s Festival to overwhelming success. With over 3000 people attending despite unfavorable weather, the Valley Fresh Busker’s Festival seemed to resonate with the citizens of Thunder Bay. All of last year’s participants from vendors, to performers to sponsors had rave reviews. This year we would like to make the festival even bigger and bring in international Busker’s. The Valley Fresh Busker’s Festival gained immediate attention in the international busking community and we have been inundated with requests of participation.
Our event has the possibility to become a destination event every summer such as The Blue’s Festival and Dragon Boats. We look forward to having you join us in sponsoring this wonderful event that many in Thunder Bay have enjoyed and are now looking forward to. The Valley Fresh Busker’s Festival has various levels of sponsorship for you to choose from to be able to help ensure the success of this year’s event.
All money raised is to produce the festival and is not for profit. If you are interested in contributing to the continued success of the Valley Fresh Busker’s Festival, which promotes not only local businees, but also enrichens the greater cultural element of Thunder Bay.2nd Annual Valley Fresh Buskers Festival
