Son of Drone Day
May 26, 2018 @ 4:00 pm
FreeBehold, Son of Drone Day! Let’s shake this city to its foundations. Please help spread the good word of the Drone.
Open invitation. Meet at Waverley Park. No planning required. Just show up with anything that can sustain a noise, and join in. The new pavilion opening ceremony runs from 1:30 – 4:00pm. Be polite, and wait ’til they’re done, you animals!
Get creative. You can use a musical instrument, a toy, a power tool, your best Gregorian chant. Bring a flying drone if you want to. A few extra noisemakers will be available. Just hold that note as long as you can. There may be limited mains power somewhere, but I can’t guarantee juice, so battery or acoustic is best. I’m gonna suggest an ‘A minor’ chord as a common starting point, but I’m not your boss. Be as consonant or dissonant to ‘A minor’ as you like, or disregard it entirely. The power is in the cumulative volume of the cluster, so try to match your volume to the people around you. It’s a numbers game; not a contest.
There is no full Drone Day event this year. This open, collective performance is it, folks! We will attempt to record the piece for near-future public release. This is a ramp-up for a possible return-to-form exhibition next year. Come show some love for the drone!
Drone Day is a worldwide, annual event (mostly Canada) celebrating, drone, experimental, and ambient music. Check droneday.org for more info.
