Jeneen will also be giving a sound performance and talk at the Gala Opening.

JENEEN FREI NJOOTLIPerformance and Installationnational/international – multimedia performance & installation
Jeneen Frei Njootli is a Vuntut Gwitchin artist, Grunt Gallery board of directors member and co-creator of the ReMatriate Collective.
Based between the Yukon and unceded Coast Salish territories in Vancouver, Frei Njootli works primarily in sound-based/multimedia performances. Frequently giving free workshops, her community-engaged practice focuses on visual Indigenous sovereignty and relationships with land. She speaks about Bushed Theories in the 2016 Spring issue of American Indian Culture and Research Journal.
Frei Njootli has presented internationally on her work and has exhibited recently at the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Southern Manitoba and has been long listed for the Sobey Award, holding an MFA from Emily Carr as well recipient of many awards and grants. She is currently being mentored by Lorraine Netro to advocate for the permanent protection of the Porcupine Caribou Herd.__________
AMANDA STRONGFour Faces of the Moonnational/internationalstop motion animation film installation
Amanda Strong is an Indigenous (Michif) filmmaker, media/stop motion artist currently based in unceded Coast Salish territory, also known as Vancouver.
She studied photography and illustration at Sheridan Institute and extended those mediums into creations in media arts. Amanda’s work looks into lndigenous lineage, language and unconventional methods of story-telling. Each film is a collaborative process with a multi-layered approach to aspects of animation and the sonic spectrum.
Her films have screened across the globe, most notably at Cannes, TIFF, VIFF, and Ottawa International Animation Festival. Amanda has received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, BC Arts Council and the NFB. In 2013, Amanda was the recipient K.M. Hunter Artist Award for Film and Video. Most recently she was selected by renowned filmmaker Alanis Obamsawin to receive $50,000 in post-services through the Clyde Gilmour Technicolour Award.__________

The Annual DefSup & Die Active Members Exhibition offers the opportunity for both emerging and established professional artists to share exhibition space and is designed to encourage eclectic and experimental works in the region. This diverse annual exhibition always draws out the best and most vibrant of art and audiences, anything can happen!
It all happens – Friday July 14th @ 7:00PM-10PM. Show runs until August 12th. ~ Engage Art!
