CY Live
February 18, 2017 @ 9:00 pm
$8 – $10Cy, modern and traditional Acadian folk
Following Le R 1er’s successful performance during the Franco-Festival in September, Thunder Bay’s Club canadien-français welcomes Cy, a Maritimes band performing at the Italian Cultural Centre on February, 18th at 9 PM.
Established fifty years ago, the Club canadien-français organizes social and cultural event within the city and continuously strives to offer the people of Thunder Bay the opportunity to discover various bilingual and francophone artists. In addition to the evening show, a free workshop to discover French music throughout the world will be offered at Novocentre (Van Norman street) at 4PM for free.
The band already has one EP (2014) and a full-length CD ‘’Deuxième Nation’’ which was released in 2016. “With our music, we combine the past and the present. We like to look in archives, find old songs or melodies, and modernise them. Either that or we look for stories in our neighbourhood in Nova Scotia, and we tell those stories in a song.”
The band’s name, Cy, is based on a legend from Baie Sainte-Marie in Nova Scotia. In the early 1900’s, a man was supposedly possessed by the devil, but in fact, he was just a man who liked to drink, play cards and chase girls. He was doing inappropriate things in a very catholic era and the band wanted to appropriate some of his values.
Since September 2013, Cy has been mixing vocal harmonies and guitar strings to create sounds both modern and reminiscent of days past. With three guitars, a mandolin, keyboards and four voices, this Acadian indy-folk prog band has taken to the road, in Canada and Europe, promoting their music with the wind on their backs and the sea in their suitcases. Jacques Blinn, Guyaume Boulianne, Eric Dow, and Jacques Boudreau are Cy. Let’s come and discover their folk music and poetry.
