$15 – $25CONSORTIUM AURORA BOREALIS CONCERT – VIOLINIST GREGORY LEWIS IN CONCERT!
Join us as award-winning Canadian violinist Gregory Lewis opens the 46th season of Consortium Aurora Borealis on Saturday, September 14 with a diverse program of virtuosity and lyricism. He is joined by acclaimed pianist Paul Williamson. This evening of Classical and Romantic musical masterpieces commences with Mozart’s elegant Violin Sonata K. 378, captivating audiences with its refined melodies and exquisite interplay between violin and piano.
Ravel’s show-stopping Sonata No. 2 for Violin and Piano ranges from jazz to fiery virtuosity and everything in between! Smetana’s poignant “Z Domoviny” delves into the rich Czech heritage, and resonates deeply with themes of homeland and nostalgia. In conclusion, experience the grandeur of Richard Strauss’s timeless Violin Sonata, which opens with lyrical beauty and concludes with exhilarating energy.
This concert isn’t just a performance; it’s a homecoming, as Gregory Lewis was born and raised in Thunder Bay, making his debut with Consortium Aurora Borealis in 2012 at the age of fifteen. We will have the opportunity to hear the gorgeous 1768 “Miller” Gennaro Gagliano violin, on generous loan to Gregory from the Canada Council for the Arts’ Musical Instrument Bank.
