Chris Culgin, former frontman for the Avenues, puts out his first solo release and it’s a roots/country gem. Backed by crack local musicians, Sean Conway on guitar, Benj Rowland on bass, Joshua Fewings on drums and Culgin on guitar and mandolin, this is a pretty slick collection recorded by Toronto producer James Bunton that deserves a place on the ever-growing list of remarkable Peterborough artists in a community that continues to explode creatively. It’s roots meets psycho-billy, backed by a voice that sounds like it’s been on the Grand Ole Oprey a few dozen times. Stand out tracks include ‘When the Moon’, ‘Put That On A Train’ and the deserves-to-be-classic ‘Ugly’. I want to see these guys whenever they play.
