Headlining the main stage this year is the amazingly talented AMANDA RHEAUME along with a variety of local artists – all hosted by Jen Metcalfe (Jen’s Bent LU Raido) and Toronto burlesque performer Belle Jumelles! Stop by the learning tent, new to the park this year, hosted by Toronto drag king Flare featuring a wide variety of experiences and activities for all interests and ages! Don’t forget about the always popular Youth Zone hosted by LGBT youth group the Other 10% and the Children’s Area brought to you by RBC. And of course we are proud to bring you displays and informational booths in Ally Alley along with unique shopping opportunities from local artisans and yummy treats from the food vendors!
THUNDER PRIDE – LEARNING TENT – WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS (in order of schedule)
Dragercise with Drag King Flare
12pm – 1pm
Can’t make the parade? Then come warm up with Drag King Flare. Flare will be leading a workout that incorporates stretching and drag king dance moves. All ages and bodies welcome. Suggest bringing a bottle of water.
Youth Literary Winners speak their work
1pm-1:30pm
Support the success of our youth by meeting the winners of this years’ Youth Literary event and hear their winning pieces. With Tia Lunn and Dez Fisher – congrats!
Body Positivity with Mademoiselle Belle Jumelles
1:30pm-2:30pm
Access the power of positive energy in your body with burlesque star Mademoiselle Belle Jumelles. Belle will lead a discussion on body image, celebrating bodies, and accessing your body positivity. The perfect talk that will make you strut Pride in the Park feeling sexy and empowered.
Two Spirits: Reclaiming Our Identity with Kara Louttit
2:30pm-3:30pm
Explore and discuss gender & sexual orientation as it relates to Two Spirit, the roles, identities, and traditional names of Two Spirits, what is being done in our communities, and explore Two Spirit history with Kara Louttit. Kara will begin the workshop with smudging and end with the Two Spirit Nanabush Legend. Questions for discussions include: Is Two Spirit a gender or a sexual orientation?; Traditional names for Two Spirit people; Is there a difference between the identities of LGBT Natives and Two Spirits?; and who were some Two Spirit people from years ago.
Get Your Drag ON with Drag King Flare and Drag Queen Vixion Gutters
3:30pm – 4:30pm
Learn drag makeup techniques and get a new face on with Flare and Vixion. These two drag stars have teamed up to demonstrate and help apply drag makeup in whichever genders you would like to express. Drag kits will be available. Recommend keeping your face on for Saturday nights dance party!
Burlesque 101 with Mademoiselle Belle Jumelles
4:30pm-5:30pm
Ever wanted to peel back a layer? Capture attention with the flash of your eye? Then Burlesque 101 is for you. Come learn burlesque tips with one of the members of The Toronto Burlesque Teacher’s Collective, Mademoiselle Belle Jumelles. Belle will lead a demonstration on glove peels, costumes, body movements, and of course the art of the tease.
Meet n greet the Pageant Winners
5:30pm-6pm
Mr. and Miss Thunder Pride, Ivan Love and Paloma Marquez will be at The Learning Tent to share their knowledge on participating in the pageant and offer any tips to future winners.
