Consortium Aurora Borealis kicks off its 37th Season with the concert “Sonorous Strings: Sounds of the Baroque”, moving from Vienna to Venice. The programme begins with chamber music of 17th-century Austria and Germany by Biber and Schmelzer, from the courts of Emperor and Archbishop. It then continues with works from glittering 18th-century Venice by Albinoni and Vivaldi, including a concerto for violin organ and strings. The use of two separate viola parts in several of the pieces creates added warmth and richness. Violinists Katie Stevens and Stephanie Caplette are joined by Patrick Horn, viola, Sonya Nanos, cello, Elizabeth Ganiatsos, organ and viola, and Sean Kim on organ.
The concert takes place on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church, 349 Waverley Street, Thunder Bay, with an informative pre-concert talk at 7:30 p.m. The church is handicapped-accessible (elevator). Admission: $15 adults and seniors, $10 students, at the door. Season Passes are also still available, reasonably priced at 8 concerts for $105 for adults, $80 for seniors, and $60 for students.
