TBShows has been in existence since about April 1st, 2004 quite the april fools joke. It's grown from a tiny little blue website that had a few show listings into what it is today; a fairly decent database of upcoming & past shows (aka gigs, concerts, etc) in Thunder Bay, Ontario. We've also got a fair archive of posters & pictures from past events.

We once had a server crash, in which we lost about a year and a half worth of data. So while the site has been in existence since 2004, all the data starts around August of 2005. Woops.

All of this is put in place for one reason, which is the reason the site exists: To promote and support the Thunder Bay Music Scene. We'd like to think it's helped a bit thus far.

The site gets a good amount of traffic - we're no Facebook, but whatevs. As the archived pictures, posters, and shows continue to accumulate (and, well, bands keep existing & playing shows), this traffic will continue to grow, attracting new faces to shows and inspiring them to visit this website, tell their friends about it, and generally alter their life to make music central (or something similar).. and keep attending shows.

As you can see, this is a slightly circular process. Ongoing debate continues about its spherical nature - claims range from a perfect geometric shape with nary a straight line to a contraption with ONLY acute angles. Officially, we're undecided - though a pleasing egg shape is easier to imagine and produce. Draw your own conclusions.

Who runs this?

TBShows is maintained by a few lovely folks. There's a team (with no I) who do all the administrative work, while the coding is generally taken care of by a smaller cadre.

If you'd like, you can use the forums to make contact - while there is a contact page, that's discouraged - email is so 2006.

We're fairly close with / possibly affiliated with Wiggins Productions, though we feature events from all promoters; monogamy isn't the name of the game.

Dates of minor importance

  • April 1st, 2004: TBShows.com registered
  • August-ish 2005: All data to this point lost in horrible server crash; all current site data starts from about here thusly.
  • February 28th, 2006: 100th poster uploaded
  • October 12th, 2007: We realize we stopped keeping track of dates of minor importance quite some time ago.
  • July 15, 2010: We give the place a makeover.
  • October, 2010: Another makeover. We should be fine for another 5 or 6 years now.
  • May, 2013: Now!

Technical Information

TBShows couldn't exist without open source software. Honestly.

The site is coded nearly entirely in PHP, mostly from scratch - some code is licenced (mit) by crestfallen.org.
